SITUATED:
Southern Africa, bordering the South Atlantic Ocean, between Namibia and Democratic Republic of the Congo
CLIMATE:
Angola's climate varies considerably from the coast to the central plateau and even between the north coast and the south coast.
The north, from Cabinda to Ambriz, has a damp tropical climate. The region that begins a little to the north of Luanda and extends to Mocamedes, the Malanje region, and the eastern strip has a moderate tropical climate. Damp conditions prevail south of Mocamedes, dry conditions in the central plateau zone, and a desert climate in the southern strip between the plateau and the frontier with Namibia.
There are two seasons:
Dry Season: Cool season (June – September)
Rain Season: Hot season (October – May)
The average temperature is 20C (68F); average maximum temperatures during the hot season do not exceed 26C (79F). The Benguela Current makes the coastal regions arid or semiarid. The annual rainfall is about 8 inches in the southwest, increasing to 80 inches in the northeast.

It is advisable to travel with small denominations of US Dollars; this is legal tender in Angola in Hotels & Restaurants. Use of Credit Cards is very limited here so always first confirm with a restaurant or hotel if they will accept it.
LANGUAGE:
The official language is Portuguese. African languages (Umbundu, Kimbundu, Kikongo and Chokwe being the most common) are spoken by the majority of the population.

HEALTH PRECAUTIONS:
It is compulsory to travel to Angola with your International Vaccination Certificate, this has to be produced upon enter into the country. Certain vaccinations are compulsory and need to be administered well in advance, please consult your physician!!
Malaria

Angola has endemic malarial areas. Consult a doctor at least 2 weeks prior to entering Angola, and take precautions against being bitten by mosquitoes. You are advised to use repellent during the most active times – dawn and dusk.
HIV/Aids
Angola is currently thought to be the epicentre of this disease in Africa.
WATER:
Tap water is not safe to drink throughout the country, consumption of bottled mineral water is highly recommended. (Ensure that the seal of the bottle is intake before consumption).
SAFETY:
As in any other place in the world there are undesirable elements.
CLOTHING:
Light summer clothing is recommended throughout the year and light sweater is recommended for cooler evenings. Check with your tour consultant before arrival.

Should you require medical care whilst in Angola, it is best to be aware that medical providers may not accept payment through your insurance company. In these circumstances you will have to pay in full after your treatment and file a claim with your insurance company for reimbursement. Therefore you should have access to cash, either from a credit card or by wire transfer. If you need assistance contact the country's local embassy or representative.
To be compensated you must be treated by licensed medical personnel and provide your insurance company with proper documentation and receipts.
It is advisable to always ensure you have a comprehensive travel insurance policy which covers you for repatriation to your home country.
