Already one of the most popular destinations for honeymooners, Mauritius is
attracting more and more couples to hold their marriage ceremony. Most of the
details are looked after by the hotel, taking the hassle out of the formal
wedding arrangements of those held at home.
There are a number of Roman Catholic and Anglican churches on the island, but
the service can be held in the exotic tropical gardens of the hotel or even on
the beach, if preferred.
There are certain formalities - Firstly you have to ensure that your
application to be married in Mauritius is registered ten days before the
proposed date of the wedding. The hotel will arrange the attendance of the
registrar, photographer, witnesses, hairdresser, flowers, wedding breakfast
and the cake.
Pre-Wedding arrangements You must obtain from the Registrar of Civil Status a certificate stating
that you and your prospective spouse are not citizens or residents of
Mauritius. In order to obtain this, you need to provide two photocopies of
each birth certificate, two copies of the first three pages of each passport,
and documents referring to divorce or death of previous spouse.
The address of the Registrar is: 7th Level, Emmanuel Anquetil Building, Port
Louis.
