TERRAIN: 
Mozambique has a long stretch of coastal lowlands with higher terrain inland and some mountains in the west. Major rivers are the Zambezi and the Limpopo.

Highest point: Monte Binga 2,436 m

FLOODINGS:
Mozambique is prone to floods. In 2000 a cyclone in southern Africa led to three weeks of floods which killed hundreds of people and displaced many others.
Flooding occurred again in 2001 when heavy rainfall caused Mozambique's rivers to burst their banks.
Flooding has exposed and moved many landmines which were buried in the ground during Mozambique's civil war.

POPULATION: 

ETHNIC GROUPS: 
The vast majority of Mozambicans belong to ethnically diverse indigenous groups such as the Makua, the Makonde, the Sena, the Chokwe, the Manyika, and the Shanagaan. A small number of Portuguese, other European, and Asian residents make up the expatriate population.
