Wildlife in Mozambique's conservation areas suffered great loss of life during wars from the 1970s until the early 1990s.
The government of Mozambique has formalized their partnership with the African Wildlife Foundation to improve the conservation of Mozambique's wildlife.
Designated conservation areas fall under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Tourism, which includes all present and future national parks and reserves and enclosures in the country. The aim is to give more emphasis to the exploitation of these areas for tourism and the development of ecotourism.
NATIONAL PARKS:
There are three good national parks in Mozambique:
The Gorongosa National Park is open from the beginning of May to the end of October. Visits can be booked through the LAM office in Maputo. Access is provided by an airstrip at Chitengo. Guides and cars are available inside the park.
The Maputo Elephant Park is on the right bank of the Maputo River.
The Marromeu National Park is at the mouth of the Zambezi River. Back to Top
