14 Days / 13 Nights - Namib Challenge Adventure

Routing Highlights:

Windhoek - Namib Naukluft Park - Sesriem – Sossusvlei - Naukluft Mountains - Swakopmund - Walvis Bay - Skeleton Coast – Brandberg – Twyfelfontein - Etosha National Park - Waterberg Plateau Park - Windhoek

This combination camping and accommodated safari includes some of Namibia's most popular highlights as well as areas not normally frequented by regular travellers.

Transportation is provided in Fully Equipped 4 Wheel Drive safari vehicles driven by the participants allowing for the ultimate off road driving experience under the guide’s supervision.

Participation on these departures is limited and passengers are expected to assist with camp duties and vehicle recovery may be required. Under certain instances the guide may use his discretion to alter the route.

ITINERARY:

Day 1
Windhoek
On arrival in Windhoek you will be met by your guide and assisted with the collection of your rental vehicle. Time will be spent in the afternoon in the orientation of your equipment and vehicle and includes basic off road driving skills.
Accommodation: Windhoek in a Hotel / Pension

Day 2
Namib Naukluft Park

After an early breakfast depart Windhoek via the Kupferberg Pass leaving scenic views of Windhoek before crossing the "Khomas Hochland" highland region on route towards the escarpment. Descending the "Spreetshoogte Pass", Namibia's highest mountain pass to enter the famed Namib Desert. Late afternoon arrival to set up camp.
Camping: Namib Naukluft Park at the Sesriem Campsite

Day 3
Namib Naukluft Park – Sesriem - Sossusvlei

Early departure for a sunrise excursion into the Namib Sand Sea including "Dune 45", Sossusvlei, Dead Vlei and the Sesriem Canyon. This excursion includes limited driving in soft sand but is restricted to the existing tracks due to the sensitivity of the terrain. Late morning return to Sesriem to breakdown camp and continue towards the Naukluft Mountains. Midday arrival at the Naukluft Park to participate in the Naukluft 4 x 4 Trail. This excursion includes moderate to difficult driving on steep / rocky terrain.

Day 4
Namib Naukluft Park - Naukluft 4 x 4 Trail

Continue with the Naukluft 4 x 4 Trail including vistas from a viewpoint overlooking the Namib Desert. Midday departure from the Naukluft Region on route to the Central Namib Region and the "Gravel Plains" via the Gaub and Kuiseb Canyons. Overnight camping in the central Namib Naukluft Park at one of the designated camping areas.

Day 5
Namib Naukluft Park

Today will be spent exploring the “Gravel Plains” of the central Namib Desert discovering the diversity in flora, fauna and geology. Overnight camping in the Namib Naukluft Park at the “Bloedkoppie”, a granite outcrop located in the Swakop River watershed.

Day 6
Namib Naukluft Park - Sandwich Harbour - Swakopmund

Following the northern boundary of the Namib Naukluft Park, today’s route continues towards the coastal towns of Swakopmund and Walvis Bay. Before reaching the town of Swakopmund follow the coastal dune belt south to the commercial harbour town of Walvis Bay. An additional excursion south to "Sandwich Harbour" may be included but this is dependent on the tidal movements. Alternatively an excursion to the Topnaar Community within the Kuiseb Delta may be included. Continue north along the coast to Swakopmund.

Day 7
Swakopmund – Walvis Bay

Today will be spent at leisure to explore Namibia's premier coastal town and to restock on supplies or conduct optional extra adventure activities including seal and dolphin boat cruises, dune boarding, quad-biking or tandem ski-diving.

Day 8
Skeleton Coast - Brandberg

Today’s journey follows the National West Coast Recreational Area north passing through the small fishing town of Henties Bay on route to the Cape Fur Seal Colony at Cape Cross. Shortly after Cape Cross the route continues inland crossing the gravel plains and "Lichen Fields" towards the Messum Crater. This is an area seldom visited by normal travellers yet it contains some of the most fascinating examples of Namibia's living fossil plant, the "Welwitschia mirabilis". This area also contains evidence of prehistoric man. Continue along the Messum River to reach the western edge of the Brandberg Mountain. Overnight will be spent "wild" camping.

Day 9
Twyfelfontein

Following the southern and eastern boundary of the Brandberg Mountain today’s route enters the southern Damaraland Region. An optional excursion to the famous "White Lady" can be included on route. Continue through the Ugab River on route towards the Uibasin Twyfelfontein Conservancy. While in the area excursions will be conducted to the geological features of the "Organ Pipes", the "Burnt Mountain" and to the "Twyfelfontein" rock engraving site.
Camping: Near Twyfelfontein at the Aba-Huab community Campsite

Day 10
Etosha National Park

Continue with early morning excursions to attractions in the area including the “Petrified Forest” and “Rock Finger” before departing continuing towards the Etosha National Park. Afternoon arrival at the Okaukuejo Rest Camp to conduct late afternoon game viewing drives.
Accommodation: Okaukuejo Campsite

Day 11
Etosha National Park

Today will be spent dedicated to a full day conducting game viewing drives through the Etosha National Park including visits to the numerous waterholes and the southern edge of the Etosha Pan.
Accommodation: Namutoni Campsite

Day 12
Waterberg Plateau Park

After a leisurely breakfast or optional early morning game drive depart from the Etosha National Park via the eastern Von Lindequiste Gate on route through the central commercial farming regions and the towns of Tsumeb and Grootfontein before continuing to the Waterberg. Afternoon arrival at the Waterberg Plateau Park. A hiking excursion can be included to the summit of the Waterberg Plateau.
Accommodation: Bernabe de la Bat Campsite

Day 13
Windhoek

Early morning optional walking excursion to the summit of the Waterberg Plateau or a guided game-viewing safari in open vehicles can be conducted before a late morning departure. Return to Windhoek via the small town of Okahandja including a visit to the local wood carving market.
Accommodation in Windhoek will be in a Hotel / Pension

Day 14
Windhoek

Continuing the Windhoek International Airport for your scheduled departure.
Arrangements will be made for your rental vehicle to be returned to the airport prior to your departure
