4 Days & 3 Nights - Saddle Hill Extension Adventure

Routing Highlights:

For 4 days this safari traverses some of Namibia’s remotest desert terrain, in the southern Namib Dune Fields, between the coastline and the interior dune belt. Sights on route include visiting the shipwrecks synonymous to the “Skeleton Coast” and relics of the old diamond communities.

Participants need to be self sufficient with respect to 4 Wheel Drive transportation for the duration of the tour, ex Lüderitz, (food, beverages, bedding, toiletries and sufficient fuel)

Services provided include a local guide, recovery equipment; accommodation is in barracks with communal facilities, cooking facilities and crockery & cutlery, drinking water and firewood.

Participants should have experience in off road driving conditions.

This Adventure Expedition extension  needs to be incorporated into a visit to the southern reaches of Namibia and should include at least one night in the coastal town of Lüderitz.

ITINERARY:

Day 1
Lüderitz

This morning begins with registration and a briefing by your local guide before entering into the southern reaches of the Namib Dune Field. Continuing north you traverse a series of “dune streets” before crossing the dune belt towards the coastline and the base camp at Saddle Hill. Today’s route provides moderate desert driving conditions allowing participants to become familiar with the sandy terrain.

Day 2
Namib Naukluft Park

Today will be spent traversing between the coastline and the interior dune belt in a northerly direction towards Spencer Bay and Mercury Island. Sights on route include visiting the shipwrecks synonymous to the “Skeleton Coast” and relics of the old diamond communities. Driving conditions include moderate beach driving to challenging dune driving.

Day 3
Namib Naukluft Park

Depending on the tidal action this morning continue south along the coastline visiting “Saddle Hill South”, one of the abandoned mining towns that is slowly being reclaimed by the encroaching dunes. Driving conditions include moderate beach driving to challenging dune driving.
Accommodation: At the base camp at Saddle Hill

Day 4
Lüderitz

After breakfast and clearing the base camp return via the coastal belt and parallel dune streets to Lüderitz. Arrival back in Lüderitz is by midday with sufficient time to continue your onward journey from Lüderitz.
