ITINERARY:
Day 1
Windhoek
On arrival at the Windhoek International Airport you will be welcomed by a
company representative and transferred to Namibia’s capital city, Windhoek.
Windhoek is often described as a city with a “continental” atmosphere due to
its architecture (historical buildings dating back to the German colonial
rule), cuisine, culture, dress and educational institutions.
Windhoek portrays the colour, sounds and tempo of a modern African city with
its displays of African drums and woodcarvings on the pavements, which
contrast with the elegant shops offering sophisticated Swakara garments and
Namibian gemstones. Sidewalk cafes offering Namibian style breakfasts (Fruhschoppen)
which can be enjoyed with a glass of sparkling wine or locally brewed draught
beer. In addition to steak houses and coffee bars serving snacks, the city has
a wide range of a la carte restaurants offering German, French, Taiwanese,
Portuguese, Italian, African and Chinese cuisine.
Dinner this evening can either be at the hotels luxurious Leo’s Restaurant or
at a local restaurant.
Accommodation: Heinitzburg Hotel
When Count von Schwerin commissioned the castle Heinitzburg for his fiancé,
Margarethe von Heintz in 1914, love was his inspiration, elegance was his
achievement. Today his inspiration has been preserved and complimented to
combine luxury and charm. All of the rooms feature the most magnificent views
of Windhoek and surrounding Khomas Hochland Mountains. A full continental
breakfast is served in a choice of settings. Outdoors in the garden café
overlooking the city and Khomas Hochland or indoors in the richly finished
Aschernborn Room located in the old castle. Centrally located, the Hotel
Heinitzburg is a short 2-minute drive from the city centre. All the rooms are
en-suite with air conditioning, television, telephone and a mini bar. A
swimming pool is also on the premises.
Day 2, Day 3 & Day 4
Etosha National Park – Ongava Private Game Reserve
After a leisurely breakfast you will be met by a company representative and
transferred to the local Windhoek, Eros Airport and assisted onto your charter
flight. Departure by light aircraft for your charter flight on route to the
Etosha National Park. The approximate flying time is 1 hour 25 min. Midday
arrival at the Ongava Lodge with some time at leisure after lunch.
Accommodation: Ongava Lodge
Full board basis includes three meals daily, table wine during dinner,
scheduled excursions, beverages on excursions, park fees and laundry services.
The Ongava Lodge is situated on the private 30,000-hectare Ongava Game Reserve
and shares a common border with the Etosha National Park. The lodge offers the
full Etosha experience while providing great accommodation and service, as
well as the opportunity to take night drives and nature walks on the reserve,
activities that are not allowed within the Etosha National Park.
The Ongava Lodge has 10 chalets, which are attractively built out of brick and
thatch close to the top of a hill. All your comforts are taken care of. Each
chalet has an en suite bathroom, bath, shower and double hand basins. There is
air conditioning in the rooms and overhead fans. The rooms have glass-fronted
doors which lead out onto a private covered veranda overlooking the bush. The
main lounge, bar and dining area is also under thatch with wonderful views
across the plains and floodlit waterhole below. Outdoor dining under the
stars, whilst viewing game drinking at the waterhole is something never to be
forgotten. There is also a swimming pool and a large curio shop stocking a
good selection of "African Gifts and branded safari clothing".
Scheduled game viewing activities while at Ongava include, game viewing drives
in open safari vehicles or guided nature walks on the 30 000ha Ongava Ranch.
The Reserve has been stocked with a selection of game species, including Black
and White Rhino, Leopard, Lion and Waterbuck. During the mornings game drive
excursions are conducted into the central Okaukuejo Region of the Etosha
National Park.
Okaukuejo is the main administrative camp of the Etosha National Park, and was
officially opened for visitors in 1957. Apart from the accommodation and other
facilities for tourists, the camp is also home to the Ecological Institute,
which is responsible for the research and management of the park. The
Okaukuejo waterhole is probably one of the most renowned waterholes in the
park. The presence of game is seasonal but winter offers game enthusiasts a
unique experience as the illuminated waterhole is situated next to the camp.
Common sightings include large herds of elephant, black rhino, lion, cheetah,
brown hyena, Burchells and Hartman’s Mountain Zebra, Gnu and numerous antelope
species.
