National Parks Overview:

NAMIBIA  - National Parks

Daan Viljoen Game Park

Situated amongst the rolling hills of the Khomas Hochland, the Daan Viljoen Game Park is a sanctuary for game typical of Namibia's highland. Because of its proximity to Windhoek and its tranquil setting, it is a popular overnight stop for visitors who wish to avoid the hustle and bustle of the capital. At weekends it is also popular with locals from Windhoek.

Although small, the park supports a healthy game population and is also a good spot for bird-watching. In addition to the tarred access road, there is a 6,4 km gravel-surface circular drive which facilitates game-viewing.

However, the best way to get a closer look at the plants and animals of the park is on foot. As there are no large predators in the park, visitors are encouraged to make use of the walking trails.

DIRECTIONS:
From Windhoek take the C28 west for +/- 15 km. The Daan Viljoen Game Park turn-off is clearly marked, and the gate is 1,5 km from the main road. The park office is another 2,5 km along this road.

ACCOMMODATION:

Accommodation consists of two-bedded bungalows equipped with a refrigerator, kettle, hot plate and wash basin, as well as an outside fireplace. Field kitchens with gas cookers and a scullery, as well as ablution facilities, are shared.
Camp sites with communal ablutions are available for those who enjoy getting down to basics.

FACILITIES:
There is a restaurant, kiosk and swimming pool. For day visitors there are picnic sites along the edge of the dam, while two open-air entertainment areas are popular with groups. No service station is available in the park.

Restaurant hours: 07h30 to 09h00; 12h00 to 14h00; 19h00 to 22h00. Meal times: 07h30 to 08h30; 12h00 to 13h30; 19h00 to 20h30.
