ITINERARY:
Day 1
Monday
Chobe National Park
We start our tour in Chobe, Kasane, and travel south to the mesmerising
Makgadikgadi pans, the largest clay pans on earth. On an afternoon nature
drive we experience how this geological phenomenon changes the landscape
into a wonderland of surrealistic beauty. Their remoteness and
inaccessibility all add to the mystique, and one has not enjoyed the full
charm of Botswana without having had a taste of their magical impact. In the
evening we return to our lodge for dinner.
Day 2
Tuesday
Okavango Delta, Botswana
After breakfast we travel further west to the southern edge of the
magnificent Okavango Delta, the largest inland delta on earth. Our lodge is
situated along the banks of the Thamalekane River, providing easy access
into or over the delta either by helicopter, plane, open vehicle or boat.
The rest of the day is spent at leisure. Optional excursions include a visit
to a cultural village or to the crocodile farm, situated in Maun. The lush
banks of the Thamalekane River serve as the breeding ground for a large
variety of different bird species, making a walk along the river
particularly rewarding.
Day 3
Wednesday
Okavango Delta, Botswana
In the early morning we depart by 4x4 vehicle into the Okavango Delta for
a full day game drive in the Moremi Wildlife Reserve. It covers about one
third of the entire delta and counts undoubtedly to the top wildlife
reserves in Africa. The giant mopane forests contrast beautifully with the
wide open spaces of the Khwai floodplain, while the seasonal pans, salt pans
and rivers attract game and bird species of immense proportions. We enjoy a
picnic lunch, before game driving out of the reserve in the afternoon and
arriving back at our lodge in the evening.
Day 4
Thursday
Kalahari Desert
This morning our journey takes us further west into the Kalahari Desert,
the largest sand mass on earth that stretches over no less than 9 different
African countries. Our lodge is situated on a private nature reserve, being
the habitat to rare animals such as the black rhino, bat-eared fox, honey
badger as well as the nocturnal aardvark. In the afternoon we depart on a
Bushman walk with real Bushmen, who are the original inhabitants of the
Kalahari Desert. We will learn about collecting veld food, setting traps and
also learn about their stealthy hunting techniques. Our luxury tents all
offer a stunning view onto the endless plains and the personalized service
of the camp owners and staff will ensure a memorable experience.
Day 5
Friday
Windhoek
After breakfast, we travel back to Windhoek via the Botswana border post
and Gobabis, the capital of Namibia’s cattle farming country. This fact is
accentuated by a huge statue of a Brahman bull that stands proudly at the
entrance of the town. In the early afternoon we will arrive in Windhoek,
where our tour ends.
