ITINERARY:
Day 1
Sunday
Namib Naukluft Park Area - Sesriem - Sossusvlei
Starting in Windhoek we proceed down the great escarpment into the vast
Namib Desert. Our goal is the Sossusvlei region, an area marked by some of
the highest dunes on earth. Our lodge for the next two nights is situated at
the foot of towering petrified dunes of the protomorphic Namib Desert.
Day 2
Monday
Namib Naukluft Park Area - Sesriem - Sossusvlei
An early morning start provides an artists palette as the colours of the
sands change with sunrise at Sossusvlei, a photographers dream. Explore some
of the many dunes surrounding Sossusvlei and Dead Vlei. Late morning we
visit the 30-metre deep Sesriem Canyon, formed 18 million years ago by the
erosive force of the Tsauchab River. The afternoon is at leisure.
Day 3
Tuesday
Swakopmund
We travel via mountain ranges and scenic canyons to Swakopmund. En route
we may be fortunate to come across Springbuck, Oryx, Ostriches and elusive
Mountain Zebra. We explore Vogelfederberg, an artistically eroded granite
hill, before travelling via Walvis Bay and the Atlantic shore to our
accommodation. Later in the afternoon we do a short excursion into the
desert to see the Welwitschia mirabilis, the oldest desert plant on earth,
before enjoying a sparkling wine sundowner at the eroded valley of the
moonlandscape.
Day 4
Wednesday
Swakopmund
Swakopmund is an idyllic bohemian town situated along the Atlantic Coast,
and promises us both great relaxation and adventure. A wide variety of
activities are on offer in and around this quaint seaside town, including
amongst others dolphin cruises, scenic flights, quad biking, dune boarding,
desert explorations, sky diving and much more.
Day 5
Thursday
Damaraland
After breakfast we travel inland past the Brandberg, Namibia’s highest
mountain (2579m) into Damaraland. This part of Namibia belongs to one of the
least populated and most geologically diverse areas in Africa and is home to
the rare Desert Elephant and the Black Rhino. Prior to checking into our
lodge, we visit the burnt mountain and the organ pipes; these geological
phenomena are particularly stunning during the late afternoon.
Day 6
Friday
Etosha National Park
We start the morning with a visit to Twyfelfontein world heritage site,
where bushman communities engraved and painted over 2500 pictures some 6000
years ago. We proceed via the petrified forest to a traditional Himba
settlement, where we meet these proud and statuesque nature people and learn
more about their unique and age-old cultures and traditions. In the
afternoon we travel to our lodge, situated close to the world-renowned
Etosha National Park, where we stay the next three nights.
Day 7 & Day 8
Saturday & Sunday
Etosha National Park
The following two days are devoted purely to the abundant wildlife found
in the Etosha National Park. It surrounds a parched salt desert known as the
Etosha Pan and is home to 4 of the Big Five, while the waterholes support a
rich diversity of mammals and birds, including rare species such as
black-faced Impala, roan and cheetah. With 114 different animal and 340
different bird species, this park potentially represents one of the most
diverse game areas the continent has to offer.
Day 9
Monday
Windhoek region
After breakfast we leave Etosha and travel south towards Windhoek. We will
stop at a large wooden craft market at Okahandja, before travelling the
short distance to our lodge. The remainder of the day can be spent at
leisure at the pool or on a lion feed excursion.
Day 10
Tuesday
Windhoek
After a leisurely breakfast we travel back to Windhoek to explore the
capital. Tour ends.
