ITINERARY:
Day 1:
Windhoek, Namibia
On arrival at the Windhoek International Airport you will be welcomed by your
guide and transferred to Namibia’s capital city, Windhoek.
Windhoek is often described as a city with a “continental” atmosphere due to
its architecture (historical buildings dating back to the German colonial
rule), cuisine, culture, dress and educational institutions.
Windhoek portrays the colour, sounds and tempo of a modern African city with
its displays of African drums and woodcarvings on the pavements, which
contrast with the elegant shops offering sophisticated Swakara garments and
Namibian gemstones. Sidewalk cafes offering Namibian style breakfasts (Frühschoppen)
which can be enjoyed with a glass of sparkling wine or locally brewed draught
beer. In addition to steak houses and coffee bars serving snacks, the city has
a wide range of a la carte restaurants offering German, French, Taiwanese,
Portuguese, Italian, African and Chinese cuisine.
Accommodation: Pension Moni
At Pension Moni you will find tranquillity in the heart of the city. Literally
a stone’s throw away from banking, shopping and entertainment facilities your
stay with us will be convenient and carefree. International hospitality, a
wonderful pool and comfortably equipped double rooms guarantee your
relaxation.
Day 2
Etosha National Park, Namibia
Your adventure starts when you depart Windhoek in a northerly direction
passing through the small town of Okahandja and includes an optional excursion
to the local wood carvers market. Okahandja is one of Namibia’s oldest
established settlements and is the administrative centre of the
Herero-speaking people. Numerous of the former Herero leaders are buried here
and an annual procession through the town to the Herero graves commemorate
those who died during the wars against the Nama’s and Germans. Continue north
to the town of Otjiwarongo which provides a convenient stop over. As with most
towns in central Namibia the name Otjiwarongo originates from the Herero
language, which translated means “place of the fat cattle” or “beautiful
place”. Given the central role that cattle play in the Herero culture, both
meanings are appropriate. Continue via Outjo and enter into Etosha National
Park through the Anderson Gate.
The late afternoon is spent conducting game drives to the numerous waterholes
in the Okaukuejo area. Returning to the camp before sunset. The camp and
dinner is prepared by the guide with group assistance and the evening will be
spent around the campfire or at the floodlit waterhole by the camp.
Camping: Etosha National Park - Okaukuejo Rest Camp
Okaukuejo is the main administrative camp of the Etosha National Park, and was
officially opened for visitors in 1957. Facilities at the rest camp include a
restaurant, shop, post office, swimming pool and filling station. Okaukuejo is
also home to the Ecological Institute, which is responsible for the research
and management of the park. The Okaukuejo waterhole is probably one of the
most renowned waterholes in the park. The presence of game is seasonal but
winter offers game enthusiasts a unique experience as the illuminated
waterhole is situated next to the camp. Common sightings include large herds
of elephant, black rhino, lion, cheetah, brown hyena, Burchells and Hartman’s
Mountain Zebra, Gnu and numerous antelope species.
Day 3
Etosha National Park, Namibia
Continue with a full day of game drives through the Etosha National Park
visiting the numerous waterholes on route and the edge of the majestic Etosha
Pan.
The camp and dinner is prepared by the guide with group assistance and the
evening will be spent around the campfire or at the floodlit game viewing
waterhole by the camp.
Camping: Etosha National Park - Namutoni Rest Camp
The first fort, a six roomed building was erected during 1902. In 1904,
however it was totally destroyed by Owambo raiders. In 1906 it was rebuilt and
considerably enlarged and the fort never again came under attack. From 1910
onwards it served periodically as a police post but eventually fell into
disuse. It was however rebuilt in 1956 according to its original design and
opened in 1958 as a tourist camp.
Day 4
Bushmanland, Namibia
After an early morning game drive, return to camp for breakfast, we departure
and travel via lake Otjikoto and Hoba Meteorite to Grootfontein for fresh
supplies, before continuing on to the Otjozondjupa Region. This seldom-visited
corner of Namibia is home to the ancient culture of the San (Bushmen) people.
Various San cultures live in many settlements and small towns in an area that
was formerly known as Bushmanland. The San are the earliest inhabitants of
Namibia. While many now live a settled existence in villages, a few continue
to practice traditional livelihood activities. Although the San culture is
vanishing fast, it is hoped that tourism may provide the incentive to retain
important traditions, so that the people's great love for stories and songs
will survive as a record of this ancient culture.
We arrive mid afternoon and walk with a (Bushman) San tracker to collect bush
foods. The camp and dinner is prepared by the guide with group
assistance and this evening we join the local community around the campfire
for singing and dancing.
Camping: Omatako Valley Campsite
Day 5
Okavango Delta, Botswana
This morning will be a very early start to travel via Tsumkwe and into the
Kalahari Desert, Botswana. The sandy track takes us through the heart of the
Kalahari to the edge of the Okavango Delta Pan Handle where the jewel of the
Kalahari awaits us at the end of the day. The camp and dinner is
prepared by the guide with group assistance and the evening will be spent
around the campfire.
The Okavango Delta Panhandle - The Okavango River rises in the highlands of
Angola and flows southeast into the north-western side of Botswana; this side
of the Delta is known as the Panhandle; here the characteristics of the river
changes, as the fast following river washes over the sands of the Kalahari it
gradually spreads out into a delta formation covering over 15,000km² with a
lush water wilderness of papyrus swamps, shallow reed-beds and floodplains,
dotted with islands and laced with a network of channels.
The Panhandle is regarded as fishing destination, as the tiger-fishing here is
particularly good. Bird watching in this area is also first-class, with
rarities like skimmers, as well as a host of egrets, storks, kingfishers and
warblers. The camps in the Panhandle offer an Okavango experience that can be
good value if you’re driving on the west side of the Delta.
Camping: Guma Lagoon Camp
Guma Lagoon Camp is situated on the banks of the Guma Lagoon which is found on
the North Western side of the Okavango Delta. Hidden amongst thick bush and
beautiful trees, Guma is a birdwatchers haven.
Day 6
Okavango Delta, Botswana
We take only what we need and depart early morning in our traditional wooden
mokoro's, relaxing while our polers push along the beautiful water ways of the
Okavango Delta. We will also have the opportunity to conduct a game walk and
to bush camp on an island tonight with no facilities.
The camp and dinner is prepared by the guide with group assistance and the
evening will be spent around the campfire
Camping: “Wild Camping”
Day 7
Okavango Delta, Botswana
We spend the whole day conducting Game walks and mokoro trails before
returning to the luxury of our camp late afternoon for hot showers and
toilets. The camp and dinner is prepared by the guide with group assistance
and the evening will be spent around the campfire
Camping: Guma Lagoon Camp
Day 8
Susuwe - Bwabwata National Park - Caprivi, Namibia
This morning will be an early start to cross the border back into Namibia and
on to Mahango Game Reserve. This little jewel of a game reserve is home to
many unusual species such as roan and sable antelope, buffalo, large herds of
elephant, hippo and many aquatic birds not found in the southern part of
Namibia. We leave the park and have lunch overlooking the Popa Falls before
continuing through the Caprivi Strip to Bwabwata National Park. This is a wild park where
we camp without fences and spend an exhilarating night listening to the night
sounds of the animals.
The Bwabwata National Park was previously known as the Caprivi Game Reserve.
Bumhill Campsite is situated on the banks of the Kwando River, close to the
turn-off from the main Trans Caprivi Highway, west of Kongola. This new camp
is situated in the Caprivi Game park, on the banks of the Kwando River, and
built according to ecological responsible principles.
The camp and dinner is prepared by the guide with group assistance and the
evening will be spent around the campfire
Camping: Bumhill Campsite
Day 9
Susuwe - Bwabwata National Park - Caprivi, Namibia
Today we spend a leisurely day game viewing and exploring this wilderness
area.
Regional tourism is dependant on the diversity and abundance of game and the
area within the Cradle has much to offer. Game sightings in this cradle of
rivers could include vast herds of roaming elephant and buffalo, lion, hippo,
leopard, sable, roan, lechwe and puku for example.
Camping: Bumhill Campsite
Day 10
Livingstone, Zambia
After breakfast and short game drive we head through to Katima Mulilo. This
busy and bustling town is the last frontier of Namibia and we glimpse our
first sight of the mighty Zambezi River. We cross the border into Zambia and
have lunch on the banks of the Zambezi. We arrive at Livingstone mid afternoon
and we drop you at your accommodation. Your accommodation should be pre-booked
