How to get there: 
International flights service Johannesburg and Cape Town and an excellent network of domestic scheduled flights service all tourist centres within the country. 

Regional scheduled flights from Johannesburg and Cape Town conveniently connects South Africa to its neighbours offering the opportunity to combine the SADC highlights for the full Southern African experience.

Getting around the country:

South Africa is a vast country – almost 2000km from north to south and 1500km from east to west. With an excellent infrastructure; travel by road, air and luxury train is easy.

Travel in South Africa is usually safe and relatively uncomplicated; the infrastructure is excellent with well-maintained main roads, frequently situated fuel stations and a wide variety of shops and accommodation establishments.

A sophisticated network of domestic and regional flights link the main tourist destinations in South Africa and those of neighbouring countries. Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport services the Southern Kruger National Park and the Sabi Sand Game Reserve, while East gate Airport services the northern Kruger National Park and the Timbavati Reserve.

Shuttle/Charter Flights:
Many game lodges now have competitively priced shuttle flights direct from Johannesburg International Airport. It is also possible to arrange private charters to almost anywhere in South Africa.

Trains and Coaches:
Luxury trains like Rovos Rail and the Blue Train link principal destinations on routes such as Cape Town – Pretoria; Cape Town – Port Elizabeth; Pretoria – Victoria Falls. Options for the more budget-conscious include the Shongololo train and luxury coaches between main centres.

South Africa is an excellent self-drive destination, and we highly recommend this method of seeing the country. Roads are in good condition and there’s little traffic outside urban areas.
South Africa drives on the left and has an excellent network of roads, linking the largest metropolitan areas to the remotest villages. 
Speed limits: Urban areas 60 km/ph, rural areas 100 km/ph, freeways 120 km/ph. An International Driving Permit is recommended (valid driver's licences are accepted, provided they have a clear photograph and English print)

Local taxis are not recommended! Call the taxi companies or find them at a centrally located taxi rank (usually at city centres and major airports). Make sure the meter starts from zero.
