Country-Details:

For quick reference we have listed our Southern African destinations here with brief information
on their National Airlines and how to get there:

NAMIBIA

National Airline:  Air Namibia
IATA Code:  SW
Namibia Airports Company

Travel in Namibia is safe and relatively uncomplicated; the infrastructure is excellent with well-maintained roads, frequently situated fuel stations and a wide variety of shops, it is comparatively cheap and offers excellent safari experiences.

Namibia is a popular self-drive destination; although most Game Reserves are easily accessible, parts of the country remain only accessible to authorised tour operators where either guided safaris or fly-in safaris are recommended.

How to get there:

By Air
Namibia is directly accessible by regular international flights from Europe by Air Namibia & LTU and neighbouring countries from Johannesburg, Cape Town, Maun, Victoria Falls, and Luanda by Air Namibia, South African Airways, British Airways/Comair and SA Express. Towns and lodges are linked internally by scheduled or charter flights.

By Road
Namibia is directly accessible by the regular Intercape Mainliner bus service from Johannesburg, Cape Town and Victoria Falls.
Namibia has a good system of major highways, and an extensive network of well-graded, smaller gravel roads. The country is well geared for self-drive tours and is also a convenient option from the neighbouring countries.

BOTSWANA

National Airline:  Air Botswana
IATA Code:  BP

Travel in Botswana is safe and fairly uncomplicated; the infrastructure is generally good although some of the reserves and lodges can only be reached by charter flights.

Of the10 districts within Botswana, Nagamiland and Chobe Districts (northern part) are the hubs of the tourism industry. The principal draw cards to Ngamiland are the Okavango Delta, Moremi Game Reserve and Chobe National Park.

The ultimate way to see Botswana is to get deep into the heartlands of Moremi, Chobe, Linyanti and the Okavango and this is done by charter flights. A number of private charter companies provide light aircraft internal flights throughout the country. Light aircraft used out of Maun are mostly the Cessna 206, 210 and Grand Caravan.

Although Botswana has a good system of roads from neighbouring South Africa, Namibia, Zambia and Zimbabwe, the distances involved result in most visitors preferring to fly.  We do not recommend the self drive option for the novice traveller; we suggest that you do your research before arriving.

NOTE:  The government has a policy to encourage low tourism impact on the country's game parks and therefore entry fees are fairly high.

How to get there:

Daily flights from Johannesburg are available on Air Botswana to Maun and regular flights into Kasane and the Tuli ensure easy access into the tourist areas. Air Namibia operates 3 flights a week between Windhoek and Maun, the gateway to the Okavango Delta.

The infrastructure is improving but the best way to visit Zambia is still to take an organised safari with an experienced tour operator; the distances involved result in most visitors preferring to fly.
